pretty sure the alternator changed in 99, so 98 should be okay. have you checked www.rangerovers.net/rrparts4.html#electnew ?
no 4 wheeling trip ends as early as you told your wife it would.

I'd assume RCH would have checked these as procedure...

I wonder that too!

But he did have a valid point - that rough idle, having to bump the accelerator to keep it running, etc, is a classic sign of MAF problems - very easily due to a bad hose or clamp between the MAF and the intake plenum.

I totally agree. I've had this happen on other vehicles as well, but I cannot find any issue in relation to cuts/kinks/loose hoses, and I'd assume (again, here I am assuming) that this would have been given the once-over at RCH.

block off all air that is going to intake ,connection on left side of of engine pcv/oil seperator, right side front pcv to throttle body right side vacuum to cruise servo rear intake hose to fuel regulator and brake vacuum hose and any hose between afm 2 throttlebody also spray out the throttle body and the hole that goes to air bypass that should clear up the vacuum bounce also sheck where the throttle shaft goes into the intake (spray that to to see idle quality)firewall side to make sure it has not breached...report back ,,,,,check dipstick o rings & filler cap gasket...tap and disconnect air bypass harness and tps also but one at a time, just try to get the engine to talk to you, also try locking out od when you are driving too see if that changes anything ....that should give you about an hour of rover tyme saturday before moma gets mad......i will be back in states next thursday if you need someone to kill all the cel's i just activated

I dont know if you have a RCH chip on your shoulder or what...

From what I have read (that was actually somewhat punctuated and easy to read) what happened here is Lando took it to RCH, where they checked it out and the diagnosis was the alternator is bad. I know P38's arent your thing, but voltage problems, hell even the wrong battery, can give them all kinds of assorted troubles.

Im not saying anyone here is wrong or right, but as far as diagnosis of this vehicle RCH has the clear advantage as they have ACTUALLY SEEN the vehicle.
