Events and Trail Rides

Have a question about where to ride, where to meet, where is Uwharrie? Here we try to keep an accurate list of trail and event related questions.
Do you have other rides besides the Safari and The Last Ride?
Absoutely! They may not be CROC sponsored but we go out and ride many other times during the year.
To start off, we have adopted a trail in the Uwharrie National Forest (the Rocky Mount trail). The forest has one weekend a month scheduled as a "work weekend". We make every work weekend - maybe only for the day - to clean up our trail and also to help out in the forest where work is being performed. Yes, we do have to do some work but mainly it consists of walking our trail and bagging garbage. The good news is that if you attend the work weekend, you get a free trail pass (saves $5) and a free campsite.
We also have a lot of ad-hoc riding events. In 2008, we went to North Georgia for a 3 day weekend in the spring. We also spent two weeks out in Moab for the National Rally. In September, we spent a weekend in the Uwharrie National Forest. We also spent a weekend at Caney Fork (near Sylva, NC). There were also a few other weekends where we got together in Uwharrie for a weekend of camping, riding, and just general comraderie. And these were just the times we spent with fellow CROC members.
There are also a lot of non-CROC members that take time out to spend a weekend riding. The Forum (message board) is the best place to find out about these adhoc rides. If you do not see one posted in the forum, post one yourself. Most likely you will find someone that wants to go ride (and camp).
We may only have 2 CROC sponsored events each year but there are numerous other chances to catch up with other members to go out for a ride.
What do I need to take part in a CROC event?
First and foremost you need to bring a good attitude!
A sense of humor and a little common sense will also come in very handy.
Seriously all our events are supposed to be fun and enjoyable for all involved. We do not require a set skill level as we are open to anyone and everyone that wants to go have fun and learn more about this sport but not at the expense of safety.
You really should have a fire extinguisher and first aid kit in your Land Rover. You can get both these items for a total of about $35, and a quick look at other Land Rovers of the same model as yours will quickly show the most suitable way of mounting these, so that they are not rolling under your pedals.
Next on the list should be radios, FRS radios are very inexpensive these days so try to get a quality one as the cheaper ones tend to be very quiet. Motorola seem have a good selection starting from about $20. Many members also have CB radios but for any CROC event, either will be acceptable. Many folks prefer CB's and you get get a good radio for less than $40 (of course, you also need to purchase and antennae plus mount it).
Note that a vehicle is also handy but not required. We have folks that come out to an event and just ride with another member. If you do have a vehicle, a land rover is preferred but not required (you may take a lot of ribbing).
Where is the Eldorado Outpost?
The Outpost is located in Eldorado, NC and is right next to the Uwharrie National Forest.
We have a page already setup with maps and directions to both locations. Just visit the Uwharrie National Forest and OHV Area (NC) or the Eldorado Outpost page.
