Winter Work Day 2010

adoptatrailWith the trails being closed for winter, a group of CROC members headed out on nice March weekend in order to make some trail modifications on the Rocky Mount trail (the trail our club has adopted).  We knew we had some heavy work to do so we brought out the big guns to help out.

Scot headed down to Bill's shop on Friday afternoon to load up the trailer with a front end loader and two power augers mounted on Boxers.  I brought them back to my house for an early departure on Saturday morning.

Most of us met at the Outpost around 8:30am.  Once we got gas and ate, we headed over to the  Hunt Camp at 9am.  The ranger met us there and told us what we needed to accomplish.  We were to install a lot of guardrail on the trail.  First stop was to unload the trailer and then use it to go and get the guardrail at the forest maintenance hut.  Once we had that loaded, we headed to the Rocky Mount parking lot.  From there we hooked up the guardrail and headed down the trail with all the equipment, rovers, and anything else we needed.

We had three areas where we needed to put up the guardrails.  The ranger told us where to put the sections and we got to work.  We also had to seed and straw a new section where a lot of work had been done by an outside contractor.  A lot of the drainage problems had been fixed by the contractor (we will see how they work when fall gets here).  We got finished around 3-4pm.

With the work done, we had time to play.  We went all over Rocky Mount and spent time up at Kodak rock.  We did have a few mishaps.  Wil broke his front axled.  John broke his front axle.  Larry got stuck on Kodak rock and had to be pulled off but did not break anything!  It was a great day and we had a lot of fun and also accomplished a lot.  Now that the trails are open, we hope to see some of you out there on our monthly trail clean-ups.
