Bypass the Hazard Switch

hazardswitchIf you want to replace the switch on a Series III FFR 24v, you need Rover part No. 579225 OR you can order Hella part 6HF 001 579-061 WARNBLINK-SCHALTER.

If you want to just bypass the switch so that your turn signals work but your flashers do not, follow these instructions:

Here are the markings for the spade connectors on the back of the switch.

  • 15 = Wire from Ign
  • R = Turn Indicator switch / turn indicator lamp RH side
  • L = Turn indicator switch / turn indicator lamp LH side
  • 30b = dunno - the switch I am looking at either has a Lucar spade missing or it is a female & the jack plug as a male Lucar (possibly when you remove your switch from the socket you can advise me if you have 7 or 8 male Lucar spades on the back of the switch.
30 = Wire from battery + (we seem to have two live feeds via. Aux. relay due to Infra-red isolation)
  • 49a = Flasher unit to turn indicator switch
  • 49 = dunno (I am thinking this can only be the live feed to flasher unit)
  • 31 = nominal earth terminal (that we may not have and this is why my switch is missing a spade).

However all that matters is normal use when the button is in - and you seem to need a JUMPER on the socket from 15 across to 49.  So if the switch is not removed:

  1. Press the two Chinese fingers in immediately behind the bezel ring so you can pull the switch clear of the panel.
  2. Free the switch from its socket (part of main harness IIRC).
  3. The socket is probably not numberd - so look at the back of the switch for Lucar spade numbers 15 an 49.
  4. Find a bit of heavy electrical cable (30A cooker cable would be ideal) - about 2 or 3" long and bare both ends about 1/4" back.
  5. Find the female Lucar socket terminals where switch spades 15 and 49 normally reside and shoot across them with the jumper
